East Maui Waterfalls & Rain Forest Hike |
 |
|
It's unusual for a rain forest valley to have this many waterfalls close together, so this is a popular spot on Maui's famous Hana Highway. But, since we know the owners well, we're the only tour company allowed in the valley. We hike 2.5 miles round trip to four or five waterfalls from 10 to 40 feet high. Great waterfalls, big, clear swimming pools, terrific bamboo and tropical rain forests, fresh-water streams. Plus, we jump off rock cliffs and swing from rope swings into the pools. It's fun and it's beautiful. And the waterfalls can't be beat.
>>> SUMMARY <<<

West Maui Waterfalls and Rain Forest Hike |
 |
|
We hike down a private trail (we built it) from a 1,000-foot ridge to the valley below. We follow a stream past ancient stone-walled taro terraces to three waterfalls and pools. This is a deep, secluded valley with about 350 feet of elevation change each way -- which makes it a good aerobic workout. The three waterfalls are 10 to 20 feet high. For the adventuresome (and even the not-so-fit), climb down the roots of a huge banyan tree to a magical area where you stand at the tippy-top of a 35-foot falls. From that overlook you see nothing but rain forest canopy down down the valley to the ocean far away. Takes your breath away.
>>> SUMMARY <<<<
- 2.5 mile hike round trip
- moderate
- good aerobic workout up and down the valley
- remote, secluded valley
- three waterfalls, 8 to 20-feet high
- "shower" under the falls
- jump and water slide into the pools

Hana Waterfalls & Rain Forest Hike |
 |
|
Maui's ultimate waterfall wonderland--the pristine Kipahulu Valley, an area still described as Old Hawai'i. We hike 4.5-miles (round trip) along national park trails following the most beautiful stream on Maui. It's hard to say which is the most heart stopping: the 200-foot waterfall seen from a spectacular lookout or the 400-foot falls at the end of the trail. Or, it could be the break in the greenery where the rain forest becomes a giant forest of solid bamboo. There is nothing like a dark hike through dense bamboo. The whole place is so spectacular it should be a national park. And it is.
>>> SUMMARY <<<<
- a narrated, two-hour drive on the Hana Highway
- 4.5 mile hike in the national park
- 'Ohe'o Gulch - Maui's most magnificent stream
- a network of pools and cascading waterfalls
- acres of towering bamboo
- huge rain forest of tropical plants and trees
- 45-foot, 200-foot, 400-foot waterfalls and more
- lunch and snacks included.

Haleakala Volcano Hike 4-Miles |
 |
|
Grandeur, majesty, vastness. Haleakala's energy is intense and ethereal, and it's absolutely silent. We'd never visit Maui without experiencing the Crater. It's where our guides go for inspiration. A great amphitheater of silence and expansiveness. A place of beauty that always evokes awe. The four-mile trip is a good Crater sampler -- we hike through three very different environments with views stretching for more than a hundred miles in all directions. We hike two miles at the 8,000-foot level through native alpine scrub forest on a lava rock trail where most of the plants are rare, endemic species. We then hike another two miles at 10,000 feet along a sandy cinder path called Sliding Sands Trail, a route famous for its panorama of giant cinder cones, each one colored in the rose-orange-tan hues of the desert. An extra for those interested in endemic birds: we can do a half-mile loop trail at 7,000 feet through Hosmer Grove, a temperate dry-land cloud forest.
>>> SUMMARY <<<
- Haleakala means House of the Sun
- It is Maui's most famous volcano (dormant)
- hike two miles at the 8,000-ft. level
- hike two miles at the 10,000-ft. summit
- experience three different environments
- an aerobic hike without being strenuous
- experience a high alpine desert
- for birders: endemic birds at 7,000 feet
