ACTIVITIES:
Host of the show, this multiple Grammy Award & Hoku winning Slack Key Guitar Master performs on a 12-string custom guitar, singing the traditional Hawaiian songs he grew up with. A colorful storyteller, his performance is warm, humorous, and relaxing.
There?s a reason he?s been called Hawaii?s Renaissance man: George Kahumoku Jr. is a master slack key guitarist, songwriter, world-traveling performer, high school and college teacher, artist and sculptor, storyteller and writer, farmer and entrepreneur.
In February of 2006, George and fellow slack key artists and producers were thrilled to receive the 48th Grammy Award for Best Hawaiian Album, and subsequently won 3 more. All of these recordings are compilations from George?s weekly Wednesday night Slack Key Show at the Napili Kai Beach Resort.
George spends his free time maintaining his three-acre farm growing fruit and vegetables, dry-land taro (for his famous home-made poi) and tending his goats, chickens, ducks, and miniature horses. True to his Hawaiian heritage, wherever he goes, George brings bundles of fresh produce to share.
Jeff plays Hawaiian standards and originals with extraordinary skill, range, and versatility. Classically trained, yet steeped in Hawaiian cowboy and Slack Key music traditions of his Maui home. Won recent Slack Key Album of the Year award. Hosted by Grammy winning George Kahumoku plus Maui sensation, Da Ukulele Boyz
Born on Maui, Jeff grew up on the slopes of Haleakala where he learned the rich heritage of Hawaiian music from his father, a paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) on the Haleakala Ranch. This music made a deep impression and continues to inspire him today.
As he began studying guitar seriously, he delved into a range of musical genres, including jazz and classical studying with the celebrated classical guitarist Benjamin Verdery, slack key guitarist Ozzie Kotani, jazz guitarists Joe Diorio, Larry Koonse, and Frank Vignola.
He has participated in the island-wide Annual Slack Key Guitar Festivals and is highly regarded by his peers. Jeff has performed with a wide range of artists and groups including Eric Clapton, James Galway, Michael Feinstein, the Honolulu Symphony, and the Hawaii Opera Theatre.
Slack Key's premier master Slack Key guitarist, Ledward's inventiveness and fluidity, his versatility in multiple tunings, and his playfulness on stage, make him the leading master of this art. Also an outstanding vocalist versed in traditional Hawaiian songs. Fun, entertaining performer. Hosted by Grammy winning George Kahumoku Jr & Maui sensation, Da Ukulele Boyz.
Led Kaapana's mastery of stringed instruments, particularly slack key guitar, and his extraordinary baritone and leo ki`eki`e (falsetto) voices, have made him a musical legend. He has been thrilling audiences for more than 40 years. With easy-going style and kolohe (rascal) charm, he has built a loyal corps of Led Heads from Brussels to his birthplace on the Big Island of Hawaii. Recognition by his peers earned Led Grammy nominations in 2006, 2007 and 2009.
Da Ukulele Boyz represent the next generation of performers upholding the traditions of Hawaiian music. First cousins Peter deAquino and Garrett Probst first began playing together as a team competing in Keoki Kahumoku's Maui Ukulele Contest held annually at the Hula Grill. Their killer duet instrumental songs, their vocals and relaxed stage banter, gave them multiple victories for several years until they took over management of the contest themselves. Energetic, talented, and charismatic, they co-host The Slack Key Show ? Masters of Hawaiian Music.
Five time Grammy winner, Daniel is a musical genius fluent in multiple instruments. Composer, arranger, performer & entertainer. Catch this rare appearance on Maui. Hosted by George Kahumoku and Maui sensation, Da Ukulele Boyz.
From his simple beginnings in Honolulu to the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, Daniel Ho has worked over the years as a musician, producer, singer/songwriter, arranger, composer, engineer, and record company owner. The most compelling of these roles has been as a five-time GRAMMY Award winning producer, featured slack key guitarist, and artist in the "Best Hawaiian Music Album" category.
Daniel?s musical inclinations were apparent at an early age. His first instruments were organ and ?ukulele, from which he graduated to classical guitar, piano, electric guitar, bass, drums, and eventually, voice. His passion for music led him to study composing, arranging and film scoring at the Grove School of Music in Los Angeles. He began his professional career as the leader, keyboardist, composer, and producer for Kilauea, a contemporary jazz group he formed in 1990. By 1997, Kilauea had released six chart-topping albums, two of which hit the Top 10 on Billboard?s jazz charts.
In 1998, he launched Daniel Ho Creations. Slowly, the releases grew into collaborative projects that featured himeni (Hawaiian hymns), hula, ?ukulele, and slack key guitar. To date, Daniel Ho Creations has released over fifty acoustic and Hawaiian-themed CDs by many of Hawai?i?s most respected artists, who are first and foremost friends. Daniel has received numerous Hawaiian music industry accolades including three Na Hoku Hanohano awards and twelve Hawai?i Music Awards.

He was honored at the age of 19 to join Eddie Kamae's Sons of Hawaii, replacing the legendary (late) Gabby Pahinui. It was his tenure with the Sons of Hawaii (1974-1995) that lead him to become one of Hawaii's most prolific Hawaiian language songwriters. Many of his songs are now Hawaiian standards, including Pua Hone, Wahine 'Ilikea, and Koke'e.
