Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo & Gardens ~ Hilo, Big Island

The only natural tropical rainforest zoo in the United States is located in Hilo on the Big Island. Home to Namaste, a white male Bengal tiger and more than 80 animal species.
Admission is FREE but donations are greatly appreciated and welcomed!

At 3:30 PM daily join Namaste at feeding time where he enjoys a diet of 3 whole chickens, 10 pounds of meat, ground bone and vitamins.
In addition to Namaste, the resident white Bengal tiger, Pana'ewa Zoo is also home to Giant anteaters, toucans, llama, kinkajous, spider monkeys and more.

Every Saturday from 1:30PM-2:30PM enjoy a hands-on experience at the Petting Zoo, there is even a Butterfly House. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the grounds botanical garden under the shade of various trees and palms all planted by volunteers.

Open Daily from 9:00AM - 4:00PM ~ closed on Christmas and New Year's Day ~ Panewa Zoo is located on the outskirts of Hilo at 800 Stainback Highway, Hilo, Big Island

Directions:
From Hilo, take Highway 11 (Hawaii Belt Road) South towards Volcano. About two and one half miles past Prince Kuhio Shopping Plaza look for the "ZOO" sign on a lava rock wall, just after "Kulani 19." Turn right on Mamaki.

From Volcano look for "Kulani 19", just beyond it is the sign for the Zoo, a small brown one high above the ground on the right hand side of the highway. Turn left at Mamaki, follow signs to the Zoo, 1 mile off the highway.
