The tour is done in either a small 7 pax van or a 15 pax van depending on numbers. Vehicles are air-conditioned. There is a microphone system for the 15 pax van. The tour heads East where you will go to Halawa Valley. Once in the valley, the hiking will begin..



The main stops on the tour include Halawa Valley, 2.2. mile each way hike to the falls, East end beaches, newly restored fishpond, one of Father Damien's Church, St Joseph, Kalaupapa Lookout, the Phallic Rock. Time permitting we will go to the Macadamia Nut Farm run By Tootie Purdy.

The Halawa Cultural hike is not just a hike to the waterfalls, but full of historical information of the history of East Moloka'i Halawa valley.

You will visit taro patches, and see how the staple food of the Hawaiians is grown, as well as a Hawaiian fishpond where Hawaiians cultivated fish in harmony with the natural cycle of preservation and regeneration.
The hike is rated as an intermediate to advance hike, with a distance of 2.2 miles each way. It has two river crossings, and some rocky areas along the trails, with possible fallen trees after a storm.

Please be advised to bring insect repellant, sunscreen, swimwear, and a backpack to carry personal items.

Tour starts from Kaunakakai for those on the island. For the day tour from Maui or Oahu please be sure to make your flight reservations for arrival no later than 8 am and departing Molokai no earlier than 4.30 pm. Make sure to use Hoolehua, Molokai as your airport destination.

On Maui, both Makanikai and Mokulele are at the Maui commuter terminal with no TSA check-in. Parking is in the long term 5 min away.

On Oahu, Makani Kai is located on Lagoon drive at the Honolulu airport at their own private location with no TSA check-in and comfortable waiting area along with customer parking.

Ohana air is located in the main terminal of the Honolulu International airport and requires a 1 hr check-in plus you have TSA to go through.

Mokulele is located at the commuter terminal in Honolulu and also requires TSA check-in but not like the main terminal. Please allow 30 min check-in and TSA wait time.

Our preferred carrier is Makani Kai https://www.makanikaiair.com and they will waive change fees if for some reason weather cancels our tour or plane delays. You can also book with Mokulele or Ohana as alternative air transportation but try Makanikai first.
